Residential Electric Equipment

There can be confusion about who is responsible for maintaining and repairing residential electrical equipment. This information is a reference to help identify the utility owned equipment (see black) versus the customer owned equipment (see grey), please see diagrams below.

HG&E provides, installs, maintains, and repairs all of the following equipment:

  • Meter
  • Service wire (first 125 feet are provided at no cost)
  • Service connection point
  • Transformer
  • Pole
  • Supply side of transformer (not shown)
Cutsomer or electrician provides, installs, maintains, and repairs all of the following equipment:
  • Weatherhead
  • House hook/anchor
  • Guy wire
  • Service mast
  • Service entrance cable
  • Meter socket
  • Riser conduit
  • Wiring and electrical panel inside the house (not shown)
