HG&E's Gas Division is responsible for the distribution of natural gas service to all customers. This involves installing and maintaining gas mains, services, and associated instrumentation in Holyoke and Southampton. The Division also operates and maintains a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) peaking system that allows the Department to vaporize LNG and inject the gas into the distribution system in order to meet peak demands, and services over 11,000 meters in Holyoke and Southampton.  The Division also oversees the HG&E's dispatch and 24 hour service operations, which repairs and maintains gas and electric appliances for customers. HG&E receives its gas supply via a connection off of the Tennessee Gas Pipeline.

Electric

The Electric Division is responsible for the generation, transmission, and distribution of all electric services for the Department. This Division also manages meter reading and maintenance functions for all electric and gas meters. Holyoke Gas & Electric serves approximately 18,000 electric customers and experiences a summer peak load of approximately 75 MW. HG&E serves its electric load through a combination of its own generation assets and the purchase of electricity from other providers. HG&E’s primary generation assets include the Hadley Falls Hydroelectric Generators, which produce 33MW at the Hadley Falls Dam on the Connecticut River. HG&E produces another 15 MW of power from smaller hydro units located throughout the Holyoke Canal System.  HG&E holds a 40 year Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license to own and operate the Dam and related assets. That license expires in 2038. Learn more
