Economic Development

Holyoke Gas & Electric (HG&E) has the power to grow your business! Located at the crossroads of New England, Holyoke offers an affordable, business-friendly community, with many incentives and programs to assist your business needs.  In partnership with the City of Holyoke’s Office of Planning & Economic Development, The Greater Holyoke Chamber of Commerce, and other local organizations, HG&E is here to help your business grow.

A few reasons you and your business can grow with Holyoke…

Despite the unpredictable New England climate, our electric distribution system has a 99.995% in-service time. Our robust distribution network can even provide your business with redundant electrical feeds from multiple substations, thus further increasing our already impressive reliability rating.

Maintaining some of the lowest rates in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, HG&E’s Carbon Footprint is less than one tenth of that of an average utility in New England.

We can help your business connect to the future. Holyoke Gas & Electric Telecommunications is a full-service, high-speed internet provider that offers connections over our own state-of-the-art fiber optic network. We also offer ancillary services such as business voice service, web hosting, wide area networking, server co-location and voice transport service. All services are backed by 24-hour, local support.

Natural gas is convenient. Piped directly into your business, it eliminates your dependency on oil trucks that may have difficulty delivering in bad weather. And unlike oil, with natural gas you only pay for what you use - after you use it. In addition to the convenience, natural gas is a cleaner burning fuel than oil, emitting 28% less carbon dioxide.

While current and active natural gas locations will not be impacted, HG&E issued a natural gas moratorium in January of 2019 and is unable to accommodate new and increased natural gas service requests due to the lack of natural gas availability in the region. Located in the heart of the Pioneer Valley and nestled near the crossroads of New England (Massachusetts Turnpike and I-91), Holyoke is just a pleasant drive away from Boston (1-1/2 hours), New York City (3 hours) and Montreal (5 hours). Bradley International Airport, New England’s second largest airport, is just 30 minutes away.

If you are looking to hire qualified and skilled employees, Holyoke and the region are fortunate to have many Workforce Development Agencies and Academic Institutions.

Holyoke and surrounding communities not only boast nationally-recognized restaurants, cultural activities and outdoor recreation, they are also home to reasonably-priced housing that is far less expensive than Greater Boston and compares favorably to other low-cost, high-quality regions in the United States.
